I Spent last weekend as a guest at the Brisbane Supanova pop culture convention, and as usual did a bunch of con commissions...these are three of my favourites - Daenery's Targaryen Mother Of Dragons, Rogue from the X-Men and Hellboy. All in pencil, pen/ink and copic marker.

I don't normally do your New Year's Resolutions. But with 2009 being the great unrelenting year of the baby the one thing i probably really missed was picking up a book (Which it's no coincidence the pile of unread tomes on the bookshelf can attest too). So that said i'm vowing to read a book a month for 2010 and then because all 3 of you are keen to hear about it, I'll probably let you know what i thought.

First up for January is 'Strange Days Indeed' by Francis Wheem.

Series of illustrations completed for the Melbourne Museum's Pompeii exhibit opening this week. These will be part of the "A slave's eye view" presentation put on for school groups but open to the public every day over the next two weeks of school holidays. Romanes Eunt Domus!

It was the Comikaze 24hr comic weekend this past weekend. So in the spirit here is one that took me 240 minutes (Click the image for the full strip).

- Historical Notes -
- Andrew Jackson had 2 ribs broken by the shot from Dickinson that missed his heart by only an inch. It was inoperable and thus the bullet was never removed.
- I've read conflicting accounts of Dickinson's death. One was that he was actually shot in the abdomen after Jackson re-cocked his pistol, and died days later. The other that he was shot in the temple. I think a head shot is a little more dramatic so i went with that.
- It was against all etiquette of dueling, a misfire was considered a shot and so the duel was effectively concluded, however Jackson was never charged with murder. It tarred his reputation some amongst the gentleman's circuit...but seemingly never affected his campaign for the Presidency 18 years later.

My entire computing life has been spent on a PC.

Last Thursday morning at his regular 7:30 wake up call and after 3 grease and oil changes in 18 months, my lumbering dinosaur, sweet Peter Crumpleton, died his final death. By midday that same day he'd been replaced, the bed still warm and my heart lost to him forever by the sheer glorious 24 inch high definition beauty of this...

I feel no shame or regret. Does this make me a monster?

A cold wet night but a pretty good turnout and great to catch up with friends and strangers alike to celebrate ART. Even Captain Dreadnaught, arch nemesis of the Toonists surfaced from years of exile to open the show! Photographic evidence here and here.

I'll be signing copies of Airborne Australia with Kev Patrick at the Random House booth as part of the Children's Book Council Conference this Sunday, the 4th of May at the Melbourne Convention Centre from 1-2pm.

Both Shaun Tan and Neil Gaiman will be keynote speakers on Saturday and Sunday. So pop in if you're in town.

28 full colour comics pages in 2 weeks, 56 pages in a month and a half. Both Zinc Alloy #1 and #2 have been put to bed. In celebration here is a celebratory sneak peek (I'll post some more soon). Book #3 starts up at the end of May. In the meantime i'll be posting some process images, sketches and final art for The Wayfarin'Wayward Toonists Jukebox Jam exhibition...June ought eight!
